Brief position description:
Student computer lab consultants work approximately 10 hours/week on
evenings and weekends. They supervise the College of Engineering
computer labs (Seaton 54, Fiedler 1092), provide help for users, and
perform general computer support duties. In addition, consultants may
maintain web pages or develop codes or procedures pertinent to computer
lab management.
Student consultants must also attend a weekly staff meeting, usually
lasting approximately 15-30 minutes.
Work hours are
Mon-Thu: 5:30-9pm and 9pm-midnight
Sat: 10am-1:30pm and 1:30pm-5pm
Sun: noon-4pm, 4-8pm, 8pm-midnight
Consultant assignments to specific shifts are discussed and set at weekly
staff meetings, accomodating individual preferences as much as possible.
Pay is $7.00 per hour.
Applicants must:
- be an enrolled KSU student, preferably in Engineering;
- have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above;
- have strong general computer skills;
- have good knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating system;
- have some knowledge of the Linux operating system;
- have good knowledge of the KSU UNIX computing environment;
- know and be able to fully use existing campus (CNS) computing
resources and procedures;
- be familiar with common software packages (Word processors,
spread sheets, CAD programs, C/C++, etc);
- be able to work at least 10 hours per week evenings and/or
weekends
- be available to work on all weekends
- be potentially employable as a student for 1 year minimum
