Scanner Operating Instructions

Scanning a picture or a document (Top)

(All types of originals, including text documents, photographs and other materials.)

  1. Open the scanner and place the original inside face down.
  2. On the desktop double-click the Scanning Software icon.
  3. Click Scan Picture or Scan Document, whichever you wish to scan.
    • For Scan Document you have several options:
      • Text & Graphics as Image
      • Text as Image
      • Editable Text
      • Editable Text with Graphics
    • You also have the choice of where you want the scan to go. The available options are:
      • Frontpage Editor
      • Microsoft Word
      • Email
      • Wordpad
      • Save to file
    • If you need to be able to edit the text of the document you are scanning, choose Microsoft Word. Otherwise, choose save to file and a PDF file will be created.
  4. After the scanner warms up for about 2 minutes, a preview of your picture or document will appear
  5. Click Accept after selecting the area you would like to scan. This re-scans the intended area and pops up a window to save your work.
  6. You can save your work in any directory you choose such as a to zip disk or a floppy disk. By default, files are saved to C:\Documents and Settings\Scanner\My Pictures\(year)-(month).
  7. You can also save your files to your Novell home directory on the network. To do this, use the following procedure:
    1. Right-Click on the red N located in the sytem tray in the lower right corner of your screen.
    2. Choose Netware Login..., the top option from the menu that appears.
    3. Enter your username and password (This is the same as you use in the labs)
    4. After the login has completed, save your work to H:
    Note:All files stored on the computer will be ERASED after reboot or log off. So make sure you save your work on a Zip disk or a floppy disk.

Scanning a picture from negative (Top)

  1. On the desktop double-click the Scanning Software icon.
  2. Click on Scan Picutre and choose Negatives from a Transparent Materials Adapter.
  3. Slide the negative strip into the negative holder so that the shiny side will face the scanner glass when the lid is closed. (Emulsion side is dull.)
  4. Close the scanner lid and click Scan. You will see a preview of the image you just scanned.
  5. Select the area for the final scan using the crosshairs. When you are satisfied with the selection, click Accept.
  6. See "adjust an image during the preview" in the HP Photo & Imaging software Help for information about rotating the image, adjusting color or size, or making other changes to the image.
  7. To scan the remainder of the frames, remove the negative strip from the holder and position it so that the frames you want to scan are in front of the TMA light. Remember that the shiny side must face the scanner glass when the scanner lid is closed.
